Abstract

Essentially, regional innovation aims to support the improvement of the performance of the Government and Public Services, optimally to realize the welfare of the societies. Meanwhile, regional innovation targets are direct to accelerate the realization of social welfare through improving public services, empowerment, community participation, and increasing regional competitiveness. The purpose of this study is to determine the sustainability of regional innovation in Malang City. To achieve these objectives, this study uses the method of observational analysis. The results of the analysis on the sustainability of Regional Innovations in Malang City revealed that of the 64 Regional Innovations initiated by 30 regional apparatuses, many 48 innovations developed (blooming), 11 innovations were stagnant (not developed), and 5 innovations withered (not stopped or discontinued). Other findings also prove the existence of interdependence between types of innovation based on operational aspects and the sustainability of innovation. The average innovation that stagnates and wilts in its operations is still going on conventionally (non-digital), the system being implemented is what then becomes an obstacle in the sustainability of innovation. Most of the non-digital types of innovation have difficulty adapting, especially during the current pandemic. Even though obstacles in the sustainability of innovation, there are also digital and hybrid types of innovation.
